FAI/CIVL meeting in Lausanne

The paragliding community is currently getting its collective knickers in a right twist about the future of paraglider design technology and the potential implications of this on what we will or will not be allowed to fly in sanctioned competitions.
Much of this stems from the accident record in Cat1 competitions over the last couple of years and now as carbon reinforced gliders have hit the world stage its become a political 'hot-potato' about to be juggled by the suits involved in setting the rules for FAI sanctioned events.
Next week the CIVL PG subcommittee meet in Lausanne prior to the Plenary to thrash out a whole heap of issues including what constitutes a paraglider, what helmets we will be obliged to wear and how far or not we can fly into restricted airspace!
It promises to be interesting, it'll probably be controversial and I'll be there trying to understand whats going on and where it might lead us.
Given that I am probably one of the fidgetiest, wriggliest people around, my biggest challenge will be sitting still and not making a nuisance of myself while waiting for the interesting bits to happen...and fingers-crossed I won't fall asleep just at the critical moment!
