There is about 80cm of snow here in Laborel near Laragne so Louise & I decided to take the dogs out for an afternoon hike and snow-shoe up the hill behind the house. Brian stayed at home muttering about 'knowing what Louises walks were like'...sane guy!
First problem: dogs & snow shoes don't really go together. Trying to walk with a mutt sat on your shoes has its challenges!
Second problem: 80cm of snow; 1 short legged Spaniel, a Bernese who is 'too much of a lady' to do walking and one wuss of a Weimeraner - Gina gave up at the first slope 200m from the house while Merlin and Chip were exhausted from digging through drifts before we had stomped 1/2 way round the route.
Third problem: everything looks very different under nearly a metre of snow.
So, after deciding to cross a field and then follow a known path through the woods and back home we lost the path, got stuck in drifts, got tangled in trees, had to cross a river, face-splatted in the snow, climbed up and then back down steep cliffs but all-in-all had a great adventure :-)
The dogs are now wrapped in towels in front of the fire and we are planning more silliness for tomorrow!
