Evening update: We tried to task! At 11am in mist and rain we drove up to the Trattberg hut where fortunately we could all shelter and keep warm while waiting for the elusive sunshine to appear. At 14:30 the task committee came up with a short task 39km in the valley with goal at Abtenau. Even though this launch place is massive and easily suitable for a ground start we needed some separation between sky and ground. As the blue sky passed overhead it caused more convection from the already soaked ground at more cloud to envelop the launch. The organisation were semi-permanently on the phone to the various weather monitoring stations and were accurately predicting blue opportunities almost to the minute but the warmth was causing rapid development of the clouds above launch and tp1 so they were forced to cancel the task before the window times had even been set.
Most pilots took advantage of a clearing of the mist to fly down to Abtenau where a immense barBQ dinner had been made for us. As we started to eat a storm overhead cracked and rumbled throwing down biblical quantities of rain which kept many of us amused for hours trying to drown the opposition ;-)
The organisation here are really working hard against a near impossible forecast to keep the pilots as happy as possible....Today we saw the sunshine but from now it all look set to be much worse :-(Today has started cold, grey and damp ; its becoming a recurring theme.
The forecast for the next days isn't looking good :( :(
Sunday: A front is crossing our area during the morning and will leave very unstable air. Frequent rainshowers, rain and thunderstorms. Strong westerly wind.
Monday: A massive front already arrived during the night and brings intensive rain and snow above 1300m. Scattered skies during the afternoon, but showers and rain are still possible.
Tuesday: The occlusion of the front will bring us intensive rain again.
