I should be in Piedrahita this week competing in the Pre Worlds but while I am waiting for the surgery on my knee all I can do is watch...
Yesterdays 116km task to Segovia wasn't validated as it was stopped due to storms on course before 1 pilot had reached goal. From chatting with friends there, launch was unpleasant at best and according to some, dangerous, with dust devils, backwind and general non-launchable conditions through much of the open window. Once on course thermals reached close to 4000m and past Avila in the 3000m max altitude airspace zone the whole area was lifting at 8m/s+ making escape a challenge. Even the normally super cool and calm Xevi Bonet reported that it was a 'little stressful' - hmmmm understatement of the day I suspect ;-)
In truth I think they all wanted an early finish to get back to town to watch the World Cup football final against Holland! I didn't need to watch the match to know the result as a whole country joined together in a massive roar - from my house on the hillside it sounded like thunder rolling all around the sky as the country went mad. Catalans were waving Spanish flags (how bizarre is that?!)the fireworks were in danger of setting fire to the whole forest. A very typical Spanish response to a great result...lets party and make as much noise as possible ALL night :-)
