During my time living and flying here in Spain, one thing that has been very evident is the lack of politics in regard to where we fly. Unfortunately it seems that this is changing and the bullsh*t that affects other areas is knocking on our doorstep. Up until yesterday and without exception I have found pilots / instructors / landowners to be a relaxed, helpful and friendly bunch.
The story goes something like this...
After landing yesterday, the owner of the 'other' school in Berga came up to me as I was packing and asked very aggressively if I had authority to fly the site. There have recently been some discussions with landowners regarding site fees etc but the atmosphere from a 'pilots perspective' has until now been pretty relaxed. I've been a member of the local club since 2002 and Berga is my local site so there was no drama and I expected him to leave.
When he couldn't argue on that front he started ranting about my choice of landing site.
The 'discussion' went something like this:
idiot: "Why did you land here and not in the motorcross field ( about 2 km further back )?"
me: (smiling) "Why would I land 2km away when I can land here next to my car and the bar?"
idiot: "You should have landed in the motorcross field - you didn't have enough height to get here"
me: (laughing) "Hmmmm - interesting, since I am here, and therefore obviously did have enough height to get here"
idiot: "You didn't have enough height. I was watching you..I am a pilot you know!"
me: (laughing some more) "Funny, I am also a pilot you know and remarkably I was the one flying the glider all the way from where I launched to this nice big official landing field"
idiot: " Well, if you had landed somewhere else I would be the one who had to deal with all the sh*t from the landowners"
me:(starting to get pissed-off)  "Well then, its good to know that you didn't have to do that since I am in the official landing field, isn't it"
idiot: "But you didn't have enough height to get here and so I probably would have had to deal with it all and you would be damaging the site for everyone"
me:(sarcastic and pissed off!) "OK - lets pretend that I'm not here and so off you go to look for me somewhere else that I am not, while I just pack my wing and go home"
idiot: "Its not a joke - you shouldn't have landed here, you didn 't have the height, I know because I am the instructor here"
me: (yawning) " Will you please just !!*^ @*#  and leave me to pack! "

Now why didn't i think of that first! All the machista crap, presumably because I don't posses a pair of cojones and all it took to send him scuttling way was a well chosen expletive!
