Cap de setmana a la Garrotxa

Garrotxa is the volcanic region of Catalunya and famous for the 40+ extinct volcanoes in the region.
Its somewhere I have planned to explore since a long time but just haven't got round to it until now. There is really no excuse since Judith lives on the edge (literally!) of one of the most famous volcanic cliffs in the country.
After a walk around the cliffs and village of Castellfollit de la Roca and a lovely wine fueled veggie dinner we made various plans for the next day....to fly if the wind wasn't too strong or to explore the volcanoes if it was.
Wind and walking won!
So off we went to Croscat - a conical volcano with a 'slice' cut out of it by mineral extraction that reveals all the stripey rock / lava / ash layers.

The Pyrenees are dusted with snow so the views in the sunshine were spectacular. Autumn colours, red and black rocks, blue sky and spikey white mountains :)
After a short drive past more volcanoes than can be imagined we went for lunch in Santa Pau, a walled medieval village on the edge of, you guessed it, another volcano. The town is famous for its 'Fesols' and have a fiesta dedicated to the white bean each January!

The 'kmacos!' were out in force! Squeaky clean fur-lined Hunter welly boots complete with a matching accessory pooch are obviously the fashion statement of choice for the 'ladies-who-lunch' of Barcelona when out in the dark and dirty countryside!
Dressed for the
country
After a coffee and sandwich in the plaza major and a stroll around the town finding all sorts of weird and wonderful 'art' including a trapeze hanging in the middle of nowhere with no way of getting on it and this little chap...
The little people!

We tried to have a fly but the 'duvet' effect over Puig Sacalm was evidence of the amount of wind ...

Its a beautiful region and now on my list of interesting places to explore on a clear crispy winter day by paramotor. So, Sr.Paramotor-man, "Your mission, should you chose to accept it..." ;-)
