Per Tots Sants, Panellets i Castanyes!

Favourite food :)
Panellets
On the 31st October and 1st November which both fall under the celebration of 'Tots Sants' or 'All Saints Day' the Catalans celebrate La Castanyada

Seasonal goodies of chestnuts, sweet potatoes, Moscatel wine and 'panellets' appear in the streets and bars of town - its time for lots of over-eating.
My excuse is that I want to try to regain some of the weight I've lost over the last few weeks! :)

According to some, the tradition of eating chestnuts began centuries ago during the night of All Saints Day / Day of the Dead
During this night, the village church bell-ringer didn't pause in ringing the bells to inform the population that it was time to pray for their dead. The effort required to ring the big church bells constantly for many hours required sustenance and the most abundant 'fruit' at the time of year was the chestnut. The bell ringer would embark upon his marathon armed with a bag of hot chestnuts and sweet wine to combat the cold.
