Close Encounters of the feathered kind!
We flew our first task yesterday - a 75km speedrun. Unfortunately it wasn't very speedy given that the sea breeze moved in early & pinned nearly the whole comp at the 25-35km mark. No one in goal & a very happy Gav Zahner who won the day beating the swiss skygods! My own flight took an interesting turn after 15km when a pair of wedgetail eagles took exception to my presence & decided to attack me all the way to the way to the ground. Not content with shredding the top surface of my glider one of them flew straight at me & hit me before getting tangled in the lines...having an upside down very cranky eagle flapping around only feet away from me is not something i need to repeat. They are massive creatures, just like a labrador with a 5foot wingspan & about as aerodynamic when wrapped up in liros! Eventually after I'd decided i needed to throw my reserve it managed to free itself only to resume the attack. After a night spent with lots of sticky ripstop by beautiful new glider is flyable again but bears the scars of this particular aerial adventure...hopefully the next few days will be less eventful!
