We are in Killarney for the 2007 Killarney paragliding Classic but so far no tasks. The last 2 days have seen so much wind on launch that even the fastest glider on the planet was seen being blown backwards. The rest of us packed our gliders & ran bravely away!
Driving up to launch yesterday we passed what resembled a large labrador sized beastie sitting in a paddock which after closer scrutiny turned out to be the biggest bird we had ever seen breakfasting on fresh kangaroo. As we watched, he revved up his engines & flew a low pass right alongside the car - it was a phenomenal sight.
Later in the day while relaxing back at HQ with a bottle of local white wine, our driver & party-girl, Mel jumped up & turned her chair upside down. There was a spiders cocoon under her seat that she had inadvertently just touched & which turned out to be the des-res of the unpleasantly poisonous red-back spider...needless to say that met its demise under the attack of a local aussie's thong (flip-flop to the rest of us!).
Its 7:30 am on the morning of day 3 now & the sky is pleasantly blue, temperatures in the low 30's & the wind almost non-existent...Lets hope that we commit aviation today!
