The Manilla XC Open

A great day flying yesterday & a personal best distance of 150km. On launch i was feeling very tense & quite prepared not to fly, but once in the air relaxed & really enjoyed the conditions with no nasty paraglider munching clouds nearby! After 5 1/2 hours i landed just as my retrieve vehicle drove up, so a perfect day all round really.

Here's the track from my personal best flight of 150km.
The XC Open was great fun - flying with good friends, learning new stuff about the area in preparation for the World Championships and not too much stress.
The retrieves home were often the most enjoyable part of the day - especially in the Canadian team bus with 'bird killer' Dan at the wheel. On the second task we were retrieve-less after car trouble, but were rescued by Dan during a 'munchies-stop' at the Boggabri cafe. The journey home after a distance of 50km involved another 100km out as we chased down World Distance record holder Will Gadd & team mate Keith McCullough.
We eventually scooped them up somewhere in the back of no-where much to the amusement of the property owners & their kids. Lily was particularly taken with the propsect of becoming a paraglider pilot of the future.

After our last flight to Narrabri, Marc & I were stood at the side of the road hitching home when the distinctive little white bus rounded the corner at high speed to massive relief from us both. Another excellant day was rounded off with our new good friends, Will, Keith & Nicole (plus a couple of 'random yanks' Tom & Conrad...sorry guys ;-))
Much joking and frivolity occurred all the way home - broken by Keiths obligatory 'pee-stop' 15 minutes before arrival in Manilla!
