The sky is brilliant blue, blossoms are showing on the fruit trees and Berga was showing her true spring colours in every sense at the weekend. I guess its probably happening all over Europe but spring seems to be here in full force bringing pilots out from all corners of Catalunya to shake off the winter cobwebs and enjoy the new season. New gliders appeared from all directions and the whole process of 'getting the feel' of these new toys was apparent when we launched expecting gentle soaring conditions on Friday & found they weren't mellow at all! All weekend provided stunning spring flying with climbs that averaged up to 6.6m/s, inversions to force yourself through and views of the snow clad Pyrenees that looked like postcard images ... its FEBRUARY! What is happening? After launching from 2a Maria we were able to climb out and fly back to the Monastery ridge and enjoying thermalling up with the vultures and local eagles. If this is February flying I am wondering what the rest of the season has in store for us...fingers crossed that it will all be as exciting!
