German Open day 4

A warm sunny morning! It looks like we will get a task today :-)
More later.....
********
Its later!
We had a stormy OD'ing forecast for 17:00 but launch was extremely light and fluffy, lots of arrivals on the road and gliders thermalling in a general downwards direction. I waited it out on the lower launch until there was at least some breeze up the hill, I didn't need a repeat of the spikey bush incident!
A cats-cradle task in the valley similar to the 1st day was set. I flew out and hit precisely NOTHING all the way to the bottom of the big spur and beyond. Two birds over the Bull-ring gulley saved me 100m above the ground and an inevitable landing. The scratchy .5-1m/s climb turned into a solid 3-4m/s! :-)
A Skywalk joined me (...for the first time )and we had a lovely climb to base and glide to the corrals while gliders were mincing in nothings on the ridge. After the corrals I opted straight away for the valley on the run back to launch and was joined by my Skywalk friend at tree height once again... was he stalking me ;-) !
We took the tp found another climb from the deck and were on glide back to the corrals when the cell behind started rumbling and spitting out lightning. I have a longtime belief that if there is thunder goin' on I want to be on the ground so I ran bravely away to land back at Piedrahita.
About 15 tense minutes later the task was cancelled and about 40 mins later the rain got us. Many pilots were unhappy that the Meet Director stopped the task just 8 minutes before task validation time, others were relieved that their bombouts wouldn't catch them out! Even though it was a shame to lose the task I believe the MD made the only decision available to him in the circumstances. The weather is winning 4-0 at the moment and Thursday's forecast is looking on the dodgy side of unlikely.
