Taucho 2 - chinese thermals & cactus prickles

A spicy start followed by light & fluffy...a nice 50km task today at Taucho :-)
The organisation guys have sorted themselves out and while its not the best organised competition on the planet it has been entirely ok today.
Launch was gusty and the wind very cross and once in the air it was like riding a roller coaster until start..then conditions became gradually softer and softer as the thermals sorted themselves out and the sky slowly clouded over. I had great fun bashing back & forth across the sky hitting a thermal from a Chinese restuarant each time I passed by Adeje! A nice 4+ m/s climb smelling of crispy duck & fried rice took me to base each time and helped me to 30ish km of the 50km task. I didn't manage to change into slow gear quickly enough when it became very light & tricky towards the last but 1 turnpoint & managed to deck myself in a cactus field but without too many prickles in places that you really don't want prickles!
It was fun flying with the Axis factory guys who are here testing the new 2010 protos.. David's glider is a very skinny 8.3AR wriggly snake. Franta was heard to say ( though he will deny it!) that he had been watching the birds start to flap when the going gets tricky so he thought it might work on a paraglider and David is the crash-test-dummy of that experiment!
Lots of frolics on launch and landing with Phillipe and his ever present camera the 'SUK team' & the magical disco light dildo... you'll need to wait for the movie to understand ;-)
