Final task - 73km circuit

We arrived on launch to a strong tailwind and all sorts of grumblings that it wasn't likely to be flyable, but theres nothing like a group of competition pilots when it comes to optimism, so gliders were unpacked and a task set.
By the time we were briefing the wind was coming up the face nicely in spite of the high cirrus cloud cover. After much discussing, changing, rediscussing and altering we finally agreed on a task crossing the valley early to Uribe and then La Victoria with gol in Roldanillo. I had to put my foot down firmly to keep Flori & Daniel under orders to make a task of around 70km - they kept coming up with 90-100km circuits! Last day always has its challenges to get pilots retrieved and downloaded and scores finalised and after the previous long tasks something shorter was needed both for our benefit and because pilots are already very tired and that is when safety suffers most. 18 pilots made gol with Carlos Cordido in first followed by Jack Brown. Final glide saw pilots arriving from a sector of 120 degrees as some topped up in the mountains whilst others took the more risky line over the flats.
The prizegiving took place at the local swiming pools but surprisingly everyone is so tired that no-one actually got wet, the behaviour was much more restrained and polite than any other comp closing party I have been too. That'll all change if we do have a World Cup here!
The overall winner is Denis Cortella (Boom 7 proto), 2nd Edinson Alverez ( Ozone M09) and 3rd Flori. ( Sol Tracer)
Camilla Antonorsi ( Axis Mercury) convincingly won the female ranking in 25 place overall.
Today we need to finalise many things with the organisation and prepare a strategy for bringing the World Cup here in 2011. For sure, Roldanillo is a World Class flying site and will soon be on the 'must visit' lists of pilots from all over the world.
The next few days will be for relaxing, flying..at last ! and enjoying the little time I have in Colombia.
I must thank all the guys, and girls, here who have made me so welcome. I leave Colombia wishing that I could stay but knowing that I will be back very soon.
