Yesterday I travelled up to Laragne in France to stay overnight with friends before coming over to Switzerland today. As I arrived at the bottom of Brian & Louises 6km drive it started to snow - big lumps falling from the sky! We decided to take Merlin out for a stomp around before it got dark 'cos its the first time he has seen deep snow. It was so funny watching him try to jump in and out of snowdrifts and completely fail to realise that he was going to disappear again and again in a cloud of white stuff. The wild beasties must be pretty hungry with no vegetation showing through and then they must have been pretty grumpy after the pup decided it was 'jabali' for dinner and chased a big group halfway up the mountain! We slid and fell over and got stuck so many times trying to walk through untracked snow so much so that a 30minutes summer walk turned into a 1 1/2hour epic as we tried to follow a stream back to the house through 1m snow drifts. It was brilliant fun and good exercise after being sat on my ass for 7 hours in the truck, My face ached more than anything by the time we got home just from laughing so much :-)
Now, I'm in Lausanne using the free wifi at the backpackers hostal - no flash lakeside hotel on expenses for me! Delegates, observers and general hangers-on are arriving from 30 countries, the CIVL Bureau is meeting as I write and tomorrow the sub-committee meeetings start their session at 9am.
Theres lots to be discussed so I'll try to make updates as stuff happens over the next 4 days...
!Hasta maƱana!
