Training day started with a rumble of thunder in the distance and the splosh of rain at 5am. By 7:30 it was grey with a very low base and most pilots thought, little chance of flying even though the buses were waiting in the plaza central ready to go to launch...but this is Roldanillo!
Rain is very common in the early hours of the morning but the sky usually clears quickly and we take to the air. It didn't work quite so fast today. Pilots sat in the cloud on launch until nearly midday but then were rewarded with a clearing sky and a few hours flying in the sunny afternoon. Luckily the Pacific breeze didn't come through too early so even though there were moments of backwind, everyone got away. I spent the day in organisation try to translate documents to English after they had been massacred by Google translate and then move my stuff to the apartment that has been arranged for me.
It was quite a surprise when i walked in that it is literally just an apartment...walls, floor, ceiling etc but NO furniture, no fridge, no cooking / eating stuff, no chairs, nothing, though i do have a bed now! I guess I'm going shopping tomorrow!!
Inscription for the Rolda Open took place during the afternoon and evening followed by a welcome meeting at the Rayo museum in town.
The buses start to leave to go to launch at 7:30 in the morning so by 9pm I was heading back home to bed....
