Task 3 - 64km but with big cylinders on the tp's it was reduced to 46km!!
The sky looked like a 'slim chance' day, even the local organiser was making contingency plans for a tourism day.
But to repeat myself - this is Rodanillo!
We arrived on launch in cloud with clouds above us and the valley nearly full of cloud which had developed after the initially sunny morning heated up last nights rain soaked ground.
Valle de Cauca from launch this morning
Lost in cloud!
The task was set but window open was delayed since we couldn't see the valley nor the mountain tops to either side. The task committee reconvened to discuss options and during the brief meeting the valley miraculously reached 'critical temperature' and all the low cloud burned off leaving us with a bright sunshiny day.
All the pilots launched easily in the slightly stronger breeze in just 35 minutes and the race began.
The day was predictably sunny and shaded in cycles which caused some upset with the lead gaggle who pretty much all landed within a couple of km of goal as the shade came through exactly when they could have really done without it!
Lots of 'hovering' gliders were seen as pilots tried to make the most of zeros but gravity won in the end.
First in goal was Stefan Wyss, followed by Eric Reed, Baby Reina, Stephan Drouin and Jacques Fournier amongst various other unidentifiable R10's! Axis team 'baby' Sebas Ospina came in in 8th place and was predictably excited!!
A very happy Sebas
The army are here 'protecting' us and controlling the public on launch. Luna the ferocious 11 month old puppy joined in the patrol today as part of her basic training ;-) !!
Luna - the army puppy!
