08:30: Its a strange morning with 2 levels of cloud and an inversion in the valley. The valley clouds look all nice and fluffy but I don't suspect anything will be going up under them! High cloud is blocking out the sun so the wind at launch is over the back and quite strong at the moment, but we are confident that all will change soon and that its going to be another sunny flying day. Rain is however forecast for later in the afternoon in the mountains.
Task 2 - 78 k.
Start at 12:15, 2km around1st Tp antenas Higueroncito, 2nd Tp Toro ( 5km radius) Goal Airport Tuluá
Launch went well with 150 pilots away within 45 minutes :) The public are being 'coralled' by the military at the bottom of launch and are loving having the pilots fly directly overhead. The cheers and applause echo around launch along with the 'boos' as occasionaly a launch doesn't go quite to plan! There is quite a lot of swooping and showing-off going on to raise the volume amongst the public.
Conditions were slow before the start and to the 2nd turnpoint, and very smooth but as the sky opened up and the sun shone through the valley filled with fluffy clouds and climbs literally from the ground to base.
Many pilots were grounded crossing La Union to the north before the tp at Toro. Finding somewhere to land amongst the vine fields of the area can be tricky, theres lots of spiky poles to avoid! One very (un)lucky pilot threw their reserve above La Union, and according to reports downplaned towards the ground with the glider fully open and amazingly missed hitting all the buildings, cultivated fields and anything hard, to land without incident in the middle of the football pitch!
Pilots generally chose to stick to the mountains and avoid the very green soggy valley until a crossing became inevitable to make the transition to goal. Because of this La Union claimed its victims crossing in both directions, but did make the retrieve quick and efficient!
15:00, its just started thundering, there is rain in the mountains and it looks like we are soon for a drenching here in Roldanillo. The clouds look pretty big on the other side of the valley towards the goal at Tuluá so we will have to see if the task runs to its finish.
