At 7am the clouds were moving at near terminal velocity ;-)
By 10:00 am it was just 30km+
Briefing on launch at 10:00 was a non-event as we all hid behind 'Hubert' to shelter from the wind. It was sooooo cold - its hard to believe we are in Brasil. Tomorrow as well as warm clothes we need to take flasks of coffee to the hill I think. Even Ulric made comment about the cold!! ( Those of you who know, will know what I mean ;-) )
But as predicted the wind dropped as the thermals blocked and a task was set & opened.
Probably 40 pilots had launched in strong, gusty conditions when it was obvious that forward speed was minimal.
Some pilots called level 3 conditions and the task was stopped. Some later reported that conditions in the air were fine but that close to the ground it was neither fun nor safe. So a good call - 'probably'.
Many of the top contenders remained on the ground so it wasn't just the 'jessies' who didn't fly !
Tonight we had a pilot dinner in the HQ hotel, so I am writing this under the influence of more than 1 caipirinha ;-)
We saw the download room all set up & waiting, for the first time this week - Ulric isn't exactly taxed with work !
