Day 4 : Task 4

a clear sky sunrise in Rolda ... very strange

A short but interesting local task today.  At the request of the tired pilots, but mainly due to the weather forecasts we set a 55km race across the flats with gol at Zarzal airstrip. (It helped the organisation too ...  we are all tired & have a huge 'to do' list before Superfinal starts ;) )

The day was very strange to start with absolutely No clouds in the sky ... an unheard of event in Rolda.
The ground inversion was massive, we could hardly see the valley floor from the start place when we arrived but soon the smoke fron the caña fires starting rising vertically instead of being blown horizontally and fluffy cumi's started popping above the hills.
As forecast, the drift was distinctly from the west and we had concerns that the Pacifico wind might enter early, so the task crossed quickly to the east side of the valle.
The northerly wind gave pilots good ground speed to Uribe as the day really developed into a classic Rolda sky. Some mis-judged  the end of speed section to goal glide and landed short whilst others  'played' with the parameters which reward ESS without goal ( being fast will help even if you can't cross the goal line using the fixed local competition parameters) but there are many happy smiley sunburnt faces here at HQ this evening.
59 happy pilots  landed in goal and a few just short ...
