Yesterdays task was stressful from a weather point of view with the need to chase the rain and keep the pilots away from it as far as possible while letting the task run as long as possible. As usual this meant that I got very very wet but fortunately the gaggles didn't!
You would not believe how easy it is to lose 128 pilots in a cloudy sky ... I would not have thought it possible but it actually took me nearly 1 1/2 hours to catch up the lead gaggle by car!
I had to make a decision before goal and the task was unfortunately stopped before we had anyone in so points were low for the day :(
Task 8 : Its nearly a 'Z' ! |
Today we had very marginal weather and to add to the matter a local caƱa fire engulfed the take off with smoke for a long time.
The task was set & then changed to deal with the grey skies, lack of sun and impending doom from the a big embedded storm to the south.
When we finally got on track it looked like a fairly average day but proved to be a well set task with the different route options proving crucial ... we didn't expect pilots to follow the west route but in the strongish wind and dismal shadow it proved to be the successful route with 38 in goal.
The lead gaggle got very low close to the final turnpoint and some bombed :(
The relief on the faces of pilots in goal was amazing, I have never before seen such animated back slapping, hugging and enjoyment as from thos guys who thought it was all over and then squeaked in.
